At the heart of MTC Digital Creative is visual storytelling; helping people to tell their individual stories through creative and innovative images, films, words and teaching. I capture and create engaging stories for each client, event or organisation.

About Marie Theresa Crick

Marie Theresa Crick is a PhD researcher in the Visual Cultures department at Goldsmiths, University of London based between London and Ireland. Her research seeks a reorientation of the conditions of Irish Catholic maternal migration of the silent displacement of women from the Republic of Ireland to London in the 1950s, due to premarital pregnancies. Aiming to position a ‘Feminine-to-Come’, a radical within but ‘not yet’, to offer potentials to reorientate what was transmitted by this migration of another register, the ‘unknown knowns’ of banishment through bodily autonomy and hopes for different futures. Asking what is enabled by a reimagination of forms of ‘shame’ within mother and daughter relations, to illuminate ‘the livedness’ of the everyday in the Irish Catholic maternal imagination and its futurity. Looking to the potentials for thought, opened by the absences created by the critiques of Irigarayan scholarship. Rereading Irigaray’s motif of air through embraces with filmic breath and practice.

Marie Theresa speaks with the polyphony of voices of working-class women from the Irish countryside, who were watched by the Irish Chaplaincy in London and framed by conditions of being Irish Catholic in England. The states of bodily, spatial temporal and relational unsettledness of the Irish Catholic maternal, that is fertile and sexual, seek a reorientation of the mother and daughter relation, through a rereading of Luce Irigaray’s shared air as it converses with my film and embodied research practice.

Marie Theresa is an artist and a core member of the Counterfield Collective. As part of Counterfield she has co-facilitated workshops with Daphna Westerman and Jiaying Gao as part of series five: Activating Indeterminate Encounters, The ‘Feminine-to-Come’ and Poetics of Filmic Breath with researcher Sara Simic, and in Ocean as Archive on the MA in Contemporary Art Theory and as part of the BA Feminist and Queer Technoscience module. Marie Theresa’s filmic work seeks to think filmic breath as practice whilst weaving amongst her own freelance photography, film, and teaching practice which forms MTC Digital Creative. She has over eighteen years of experience in creative spaces, predominantly in education, including schools in Surrey and London and Whitechapel Gallery, Zoo Art Fair and Sebastian and Barquet. Marie Theresa has activated ‘Thinking With’ online spaces to collectively think with different art spaces, such as Manifesta 14, documenta 15 and many others. She also takes part in spaces such as the Birkbeck London Critical Theory Summer School, Architectural Summer Schools and Birkbeck Guilt Group. Her film Indeterminate Transmissions - Hydro-Feminine was screened at the opening of Choreo Archive – re-making your archive at SKEWED Gallery, and has also been part of a group exhibition Fragments at the University of Kent and group publication Market Tales a Geopolyphony.

Marie Theresa will take part in the SMR Summer Schools in Greece, The Feminine in an Age of Anthropological Transformation, with Julia Kristeva, Miglena Nikolchina and Katarina Kolozova as invited lecturer.

Marie Theresa is currently working as part of a Film Society and a Visual Cultures archive project with PhD and MA students.

I am at heart a facilitator of collective spaces, to think with film, photography, art, theory, writing and creative modes of being. I founded MTC Digital Creative to bring all my passions under one roof, with over eighteen years of experience as a creative practitioner and facilitator of experimental horizontal teaching, predominately within the education sector and including corporate companies. I have been recognised for pushing boundaries and commended for my unconventional approaches to challenge and explore the potentials of blended modalities of learning, which have supported learners to creatively discover their own voices. I am motivated to continuously develop my own teaching practice and pedagogy by working within established positions and curating and delivering workshops, courses, syllabuses, and community spaces that seek to think otherwise.

I picked up my first camera aged three, when my voyage into the creative world began. My passion for photography extends from eye-catching event photography, breathtaking documentary stills, animal portraits, and producing captivating content to effectively communicate varied marketing briefs. I have worked for the education sector, charities, independent companies and individual commissions. I have taken part in collaborative projects with other photographers, local communities, academics and explorers; including working in a former leprosy colony.
